The husband-and-wife duo were both holding full time jobs before the pandemic hit and affected their careers. The duo enjoys baking in their free time and one night after baking a batch of mochi bread, they decided to post it online and to their surprise, they got a couple of sales, and it was picked up by a local news outlet and some food bloggers.
This started their baking journey at home for a year and a half. They decided to scale up after their home setting was not ideal for production, leading to the opening of their first store at HillV2 in early 2021.
Moving from a home-based set up to operating in a physical store can be overwhelming but thankfully the duo’s journey was relatively smooth. Having made the transition during the pandemic, they had to constantly find new ways to engage their customers by formulating new flavours and trying out trending flavours.
However, this only brought the duo closer with the time spent together managing Jo-Yi Bakery. They remain as each other’s motivation and with the arrival of their baby, the duo is even more motivated to continue the business and bring it to greater heights.
The iconic recipe was born when the duo visited Taiwan for a couple of months and their friend shared the recipe to the trending Taiwan-style bread. They then brought the recipe back and modified it to suit the Singaporean local taste – it took them over half a year to perfect the recipe after countless R&D with friends.
All Jo-Yi Bakery’s ingredients are sourced directly from Taiwan to ensure customers get the full authentic flavours. Be sure to try their best-selling flavours – Kaya, Yam, Red Bean, and Chocolate buns!
Jo-Yi Bakery is looking to continue spreading the word of Taiwanese-inspired bread through Singapore in the next couple of years. Head down to Jo-Yi Bakery at HillV2 today to get your hands on these soft, chewy, and flavourful buns!
